Leap Day

Today is Leap Day, Feburary 29 – an extra day added in every four years, to correct the yearly sun cycle.  Guess the Aztec callendar, which dates from the time of Christ, is far more accurate.  In any event, I think we (here in the U.S.A.) need to make a Leap of Faith – this would be a great day to start.  A new book is available today "The Three Trillion Dollar War" by Joseph Stiglitz (a Noble Prize-winning economist) – the book tallies up the real costs of the "War" in Iraq & Afghanistan.  Three Trillion dollars (more than the total worth of Bill Gates and the 1000 richest people in the world) and still counting…!  This is causing catastrophic problems with our economy – they say recession Sad  This massive expendature of funds does not keep us safe – there is no way that our actions in Iraq or Afghanistan can contain the forces of evil, that lurk over the entire Middle East and Asian land mass.  We are not fighting a WAR – the opponent is Not A Country – but are disorganized and scattered bands of very crazy desert-dwelling assholes.

Obama and Clinton both promise to stop this "War" and keep our tax dollars here in this country – where they will actually benefit us.  We can’t allow the Republican candidate, John McCain to continue promoting "George Bush’s War" – at least stop spending money and sending soldiers, like this situation is a necessary war – it is not.  We might consider getting United Nations support to Iraq, to facilitate their own police actions.
