Cabinet Mountain Wilderness – Rock Creek Mine

Todays Missoulian Newspaper features an article on the Rock Creek Mine proposal, within the designated Cabinet Mountain Wilderness Area. I was suprised to learn about the large volumn of rock to be processed – 10,000 tons of ore/day. "The annual take currently is estimated at 6 million ounces of silver and 52 million pounds on copper."  That’s a lot of jing – in fact about $84,000,000/year from silver and .25 billion dollars in copper.  So much for the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness.  With the existing 1872 Mining Law, all the mining profits are kept within the operation – Uncle Sam gets the shaft!
